What is Osteoarthritis of the knee?

This is the most common type of arthritis know as degenerative joint disease. In osteoarthritis the surface layer of cartilage breaks down and wears away. This allows the bone under the cartilage to rub together resulting in pain, swelling, and loss of joint motion.

How does the treatment work?

By using guided ultrasound we can pinpoint the problematic areas with extreme accuracy. A viscosupplement is then injected into the area and this allows a lubricating effect to take place and act as a cushion, in turn reducing the pain. This treatment combined with a customized rehab and physical therapy program, provide a high success rate for those with chronic knee pain due to osteoarthritis.

Who is a good candidate?

If you have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis, suffer from knee pain in the morning when you wake up, have a hard time going up and down stairs, take medication for knee pain, or are considering surgery for your knee pain.

Hyalgan

Did you know that Hyalgan knee joint injections prolong the need for knee replacement surgery by 3.5 years, on average?!

"The principal component of HYALGAN® is a naturally derived substance called hyaluronan that relieves your pain by lubricating and cushioning your knee joint. Hyaluronan is a natural chemical found in the body and is present in a particularly high amount in joint tissues and in the fluid that fills the joint (also called synovial fluid). HYALGAN® is injected directly into the knee."
